- designed and led four 1- and 2-day trainings of 120 staff (assistant branch managers, agricultural loan officers and others) from branches of Post Bank Uganda, on understanding agricultural risks, the value and process of conducting comprehensive agricultural risk assessment, tools for agricultural risk prioritization and action planning, development and implementation of agricultural risk management plans, and strategies for banks to increase the number of loan-worthy farmers and agribusinesses. - conducted preliminary research report on aflatoxin post-harvest handling risk in sesame for private company in Uganda

 

- adapted 6 value-chain reports for SNV Uganda, from the Jonam/Nwoya/Bulisa area (cassava, rice, vegetables, milk, honey, sesame) to include risk assessment ratings and risk management suggestions; developed an Agribusiness Risk Checklist for use with businesses along these value chains. - designed and lead two 1-day trainings for 48 lead farmers in the Gulu area Farming God's Way (conservation farming) network, on understanding agricultural risks and the value of comprehensive agricultural risk assessment, and on development and implementation of agricultural risk management plans with limited financial resources. - designed and led 1/2-day training of 24 key Ugandan farmers from Koboko Farmers Association and Koboko Town Council Agriculture programs, on understanding agricultural risks and the value of comprehensive agricultural risk assessment, and on development and implementation of agricultural risk management plans; at the end of training, agreed to participants' request for assistance in conducting a comprehensive risk management assessment for businesses in broiler chicken commercial farming association, and development of a risk management plan for the same. 9 February 2013, Koboko, Uganda. - designed and led 2-day training of 20 key South Sudanese farmers in World Renew (NGO) program, on understanding and planning for agricultural market and price risk management; included interactive dialogue between farmers and area traders buying from farmers to understand each other's perspective; at the end of training, participants and World Renew staff requested a follow-up training on small business record-keeping and management for farm businesses. 13-14 November 2012, Yei, South Sudan. - developed and led training of 256 South Sudanese farmers in South Sudan District United Methodist Church program in conservation farming methods for mitigating risks of drought and unpredictable rains, and for multiplying yields with minimal inputs; organized and supervised follow-up extension visits to trainees in 18 villages, documented a 43% implementation rate throughout the first growing season.
